00:00:08,700 --> 00:00:11,200
Hi Guys it's me again, Guido Bugenstock
2
00:00:11,500 --> 00:00:14,500
with my lesson : n° 35
3
00:00:15,000 --> 00:00:18,000
And.....Today we'll take a look
4
00:00:18,300 --> 00:00:27,000
at the seven modes....
In the C major scale, C natural scale
5
00:00:27,300 --> 00:00:34,700
So, the first mode is called C Ionian
which has a major sound of course
6
00:00:34,900 --> 00:00:40,000
The second one is Called D Dorian
which has a minor sound
7
00:00:40,500 --> 00:00:46,500
The third is the E Phrygian
which has a minor third sound too
8
00:00:47,000 --> 00:00:50,700
The fourth is the Lydian
wich has a major sound
9
00:00:51,000 --> 00:00:56,500
The fifth mode is the Mixolydian,
has a major sound too
10
00:00:56,800 --> 00:01:04,500
And the....... The sixth mode is the A Aeolian scale
which has a minor sound of course
11
00:01:05,200 --> 00:01:12,000
And the seven is the Locrian scale with has a kind
of euh...... It’s half to minor scale actually.
12
00:01:12,300 --> 00:01:19,000
So, the lots of misunderstandings about what’s
modes actually are
13
00:01:19,300 --> 00:01:29,200
So..... so to give you a better impression, better
example of how differents the modes sounds
14
00:01:29,500 --> 00:01:34,700
instead of doing this in just one key.... let's say see. (correction à prévoir : "Let's say C")
15
00:01:35,000 --> 00:01:39,500
I did this in seven different keys
16
00:01:39,900 --> 00:01:43,400
so, in others words, the first one is
17
00:01:43,700 --> 00:01:48,700
C Ionian, than (then) C Dorian, C Phrygian, C Lydian, and so on !
18
00:01:49,000 --> 00:01:54,200
And on this way you get 7 differents keys
19
00:01:54,700 --> 00:01:58,000
So, the most important thing here is
20
00:01:58,200 --> 00:02:06,800
because I have said before a lots of misunderstanding,
what for example, what is Dorian actually ?
21
00:02:07,100 --> 00:02:12,800
So for me, Dorian, the C Dorian sound
22
00:02:13,100 --> 00:02:20,800
cause of course I know that
it's a second mode of the B flat major scale
23
00:02:21,000 --> 00:02:32,800
But I know things about B Major, B flat Major,
I think about just a C minor scale back with a natural sixth
24
00:02:33,000 --> 00:02:45,200
Euh... for example the C Dorian scale with
a natural sixth sound a bit more rockier then the
C Ionian scale which has a flat sixth.
25
00:02:45,500 --> 00:02:58,500
So…if you compare all this modes, for example,
let's say, another example would be C Ionian and C Lydian,
26
00:02:59,000 --> 00:03:16,500
C Ionian is a normal scale with just C D E F G A B C
and the C lydian scale is C D E F# G A and B
so we have only one differents here, this is a sharp 4
27
00:03:17,000 --> 00:03:28,500
And if you compare this, you get euh..
you find that both scales have a special mode,
a mode actually.
28
00:03:29,000 --> 00:03:39,800
So they are lots of examples I made for you
so it's always good... before you start maybe learning the licks
29
00:03:40,200 --> 00:03:44,500
pull on the backing tracks, play the scale
30
00:03:45,000 --> 00:03:56,000
and listen how differents is scale sound,
and then you can start to learn the licks I made for you.
31
00:03:56,300 --> 00:04:12,000
euh... And by the way, what’s you can maybe experiment
with the licks by a changing maybe the C Dorian
to C Ionian Lick which could be sound interesting.
32
00:04:12,300 --> 00:04:26,400
Or you do her a maybe, start with on of a c ionian licks
and play this by changing the sharp 4 for example to C
lydian,
33
00:04:26,800 --> 00:04:38,000
so you have a lot of euh..., you can experiment
a lot with this scale and a lot with modes it takes
a little while to get used about this.
34
00:04:38,500 --> 00:04:41,000
But the most important things as I said before
35
00:04:41,300 --> 00:04:51,000
Euh...Think if you play in a mode,
let's see C Dorian or C Lydian or whatever
36
00:04:51,500 --> 00:04:58,000
Euh...take this as an own scale, own tone sounder,
37
00:04:58,400 --> 00:05:05,700
So as I said before, when I'm playing in C Mixolydian,
I know that comes from the F major scale,
38
00:05:05,900 --> 00:05:17,000
I'm thinking like it is a C major scale by the way the flat sound,
so this is the key, think in differents modes, as that word says.
39
00:05:17,300 --> 00:05:24,500
Okay have fun with this, see you next time....Bye Bye

15

C Ionian, than (then) C Dorian, C Phrygian, C Lydian, and so on !
18
00:01:49,000 --> 00:01:54,200
And on this way you get 7 differents keys
19
00:01:54,700 --> 00:01:58,000

20

21
00:02:07,100 --> 00:02:12,800
So for me, Dorian, the C Dorian sound
22
00:02:13,100 --> 00:02:20,800
cause of course I know that
it's a second mode of the B flat major scale
23
00:02:21,000 --> 00:02:32,800
But I know things about B Major, B flat Major,

So…if you compare all this modes, for example,
let's say, another example would be C Ionian and C Lydian,
26
00:02:59,000 --> 00:03:16,500

and the C lydian scale is C D E F# G A and B
so we have only one differents here, this is a sharp 4
27

And if you compare this, you get euh..
you find that both scales have a special mode,
a mode actually.
28
00:03:29,000 --> 00:03:39,800

00:03:56,300 --> 00:04:12,000
euh... And by the way, what’s you can maybe experiment
with the licks by a changing maybe the C Dorian
to C Ionian Lick which could be sound interesting.
32
00:04:12,300 --> 00:04:26,400
Or you do her a maybe, start with on of a c ionian licks
and play this by changing the sharp 4 for example to C
lydian,
33
00:04:26,800 --> 00:04:38,000
so you have a lot of euh..., you can experiment
a lot with this scale and a lot with modes it takes
a little while to get used about this.
34
00:04:38,500 --> 00:04:41,000
